For the love of shoes
I LOVE shoes and sneakers! I have a sneaker collection of over 30 sets consisting of Nikes, Adidas, Asics, Fila, Converse, Reebok, and some lesser known brands. I don’t care as much about famous maker shoes as much as just whether I like the look and feel. Honestly, it’s more about what I think looks cool than anything else. Wearing cool looking sneakers really makes me FEEL COOL!
Discovery
When I first saw the sleek, no messy knots look of no-tie stretchy shoelaces, I immediately knew I HAD TO HAVE THEM! I liked Hickies no-tie laces but they had a little ornamental oval button on the top of each lace that I wasn’t crazy about so I did more research. I discovered that there were more options for no tie shoelaces so I bought several of the best looking ones and installed them into some of my daily sneakers. I was blown away at how they great they made my sneakers look! They were actually comfortable and secure too.
Will they last?
I wear my Tony Hawk high tops while working construction, landscaping, and mountain biking so they REALLY take a beating; perfect for the reliability test!
The initial set of laces were this arrow head style and I was bummed out when a couple of them broke, both, in the same spot. I was disappointed but would have accepted this as a tradeoff for the awesome look BUT, I discovered very similar laces but with a MUCH THICKER head.
I put them through the same beating and they passed with flying colors and I haven’t broken one yet!
Gotta tell the world
Ian loved em so much that we started a little side biz selling stretchy shoelaces online. We loved the product so much, we figured we couldn’t go wrong. Plus it would give us a chance to create funny videos and commercials for our OWN products instead of everyone else. If you didn’t know, we produce funny commercials for other businesses. Maybe doing them us for ourselves soon!

Everyone wants to know where the name “erkies” comes from. Ian and I are comedians and create funny videos so we thought that in a commercial, we could have a little jingle where we sang a few words then ended it with stretching a lace and that sound would come out each time you stretched it, like “erkie erkie erkie”. Also, do you know how hard it is to get a .com name with only 6 letters in it these days? I think “Erkies.com” was the last one!
At first they scoffed
When I started talking about these to some of my friends, they kinda scoffed and weren’t really into it BUT when I said said “Just give me your shoes!” and installed the no tie laces, they were like “Wow! You’re right! These are cool!” and I’m always like “I told ya!”
My neighbor Andy was the same way. He’s up to date and into fashion and stuff and he’s got a job where he wears a suit every day so I told him to give me his dress shoes and he was like “Well, I’m really kind of traditional lace look guy.” I put them in his shoes and he LOVED them. He liked the sleek look of the no messy knots look way more than the traditional look. You’re welcome Andy!
